The Land of Smiles

Botanical GARDENS, temples and Waterfalls

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Chiang Mai is a city where ancient temples meet vibrant markets, and every corner invites you to explore, reflect, and savor the beauty of the moment.

JANUARY 25 - February 3, 2025

Join us for ten days in Chiang Mai, one of the most popular cities in Thailand known for its genuinely happy people, a temple for ever every day of the year, and traditional night markets with some of the best street food in the world. We will stay at the Horizon Village for five days; a serene resort situated on the perimeter of a 115-acre botanical garden with giant topiary, a petting zoo, labyrinths, meandering paths perfect for first-morning walks and secluded spots for light stretching and meditation. Breakfast is included each day and it is a smorgasboard! You will find traditional Thai breakfast options, western breakfast favorites including an omelet station, and a variety of lucious fruits and vegetables. Coffee and tea are included.

There is a nice restaurant for lunch and dinner when we are’n’t off on our excursions. We gather around the table sharing our latest adventures and insights. If you like massage there are plenty of affordable options with a Thai massage studio on premises and spas on every corner in Chiang Mai. And, one massage is included at our favorite Lanna Thai Massage and coffee shop next door.

There will be time to relax by the pool and Wise Mystic discussions if you’d like to join us.

We will have a half day at the elephant sanctuary (a personal favorite) where we make lunch for the elephants and feed them by hand. Grandma’s Cooking School is so entertaining and the food we make is delicious. We start by going to a market to learn about ingredients and have a tour of their organic gardens. We take a full day trip to two temples and a waterfall. One of the temples overlooks the Old City and another is beautifully situated amonst the calming trees and creek. Hiking is available.

For the second part of our trip, we head to the center of the walled, moated Old City of Chiang Mai for four nights. This is the perfect location to experience the best of the cultural heart of one of Thailand's most walkable cities. Most of the sights of the 700-year-old former capital of the Kingdom of Lanna are within the two kilometers-squared city walls which house centuries-old temple compounds like Wat Phra Singh, known for its Lion Buddha statue, and Wat Chedi Luang, with a huge reconstructed pagoda.

We intentionally timed the trip to coincide with the Chiang Mai Annual Flower Festival which brings even greater energy and vibrancy with a huge celebration. exquisite floats made of flowers, traditional Thai costumes, festivites and even more delectable street food!

Thailand delights all senses all your senses from vibrant colors to aromatic spices to the sound of monks chanting.
